2008 Race Details

Course Description
The 1/2-mile Swim starts on the north shore of Seward Park and takes you on a triangular course (counter-clockwise) through the calm waters in Andrews Bay. Water temperature is expected to be in the upper 60s and wetsuits are allowed. Safety personnel will be present to assist if needed. Exit the water and head up the beach and onto the grass to the transition area.

The 12-mile Bike route leads participants out of Seward Park, traveling north on Lake Washington Blvd. Continuing on Lakeside Ave S., turn left onto Day Street to enter the I-90 Express Lanes service access road, near the West Portal. Once on the I-90 Express Lanes, cyclists continue until the turnaround located just past the entrance of the East Portal on Mercer Island. The return route is the same in reverse to the transition area.

The 3.1-mile Run will take participants on a clockwise tour of the lower loop of Seward Park. On the east side of Seward Park, runners will trek to the upper loop and back down before proceeding to the finish line in the parking lot on the south side of the park.

Transition Area
The transition area will be open and supervised starting at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 20. For the safety of all participants, only registered participants will be allowed in the transition area. Please rack your bike on your designated bike rack which is determined by your race number.

It is very important that all athletes who choose to compete in a sprint distance triathlon are capable of swimming at least half a mile in open water. If you do not have experience with swimming in open water, it is highly recommended that you do so prior to the race. Below is a list of public beaches on Lake Washington that allow public swimming. *Due to circumstances beyond our control, the milfoil in Andrews Bay will not be cut prior to the race on July 20. Although the milfoil will be pushed back as athletes enter the water, please expect to encounter some milfoil throughout the swim.
